8/11 Safe Digging Day
August 11 (8/11) is Safe Digging Day — a reminder to always call 811 before starting any digging project. Whether you’re planting flowers, installing a fence, or tackling a larger outdoor project, underground utility lines may be just inches below the surface. Accidentally striking one can cause power outages, gas leaks, water disruptions, or serious injury. Calling 811 is free, quick, and required by law. Simply make the call or submit a request online at least 2–3 business days before you dig, and utility crews will mark the location of buried lines so you can work safely. This 8/11, remember: Know what’s below — Call before you dig!
