Calling all 4th, 5th, and 6th Graders! Enter the Mayor for a Day Essay Contest!

The Mayor for a Day Essay Contest is back, giving 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students across Minnesota the chance to imagine what they would do if they were mayor for a day. Students can submit essays sharing their creative ideas and solutions for a chance to win $100 and be recognized in Minnesota Cities magazine. Submissions can be made online through the contest form, by email as a completed PDF attachment to mayorforaday@lmc.org, or by mailing a handwritten or printed essay to 145 University Ave. W, Saint Paul, MN 55103. The deadline for entries is December 12, and winners will be notified in early January.

In addition to the statewide contest, the City of Eagle Lake will select a local winner, who will receive a small prize and the special opportunity to serve as Junior Mayor for a Day, including participating in a city council meeting alongside Mayor John Whitington. Parents, teachers, and schools are encouraged to support students in submitting essays and to help young people share their ideas for making communities better.
