News Release for Eagle Lake Day Care

City of Eagle Lake Supports Expanded Child Care Initiative at Eagle Lake Elementary

The City of Eagle Lake is pleased to share Mankato Area Public Schools’ recent announcement regarding the use of two classrooms at Eagle Lake Elementary to support expanded child care options for local families. This initiative is a positive step in addressing a long-standing need in our community.

Mayor John Whitington commented:
“Eagle Lake has a real need for additional child care options, and securing appropriate space has often been a challenge. While we were sad to see preschool leave the community when it moved to the Center for Early Learning, we are grateful that these classrooms are now being thoughtfully repurposed to meet a very real and pressing community need—child care. We appreciate Eagle Lake Elementary’s willingness to make this space available to support families.”

City Administrator Jennifer Bromeland added:
“We were certainly sorry to see preschool leave Eagle Lake when it moved to the Center for Early Learning. That was a loss for the community, but it is important to note that the child care initiative is a separate effort. We are grateful that the former classrooms are being thoughtfully repurposed to meet the urgent need for child care. The City is also working with First Children’s Finance and the Rural Child Care Innovation Program on a community solution action plan focused on sustainable, right-sized child care solutions for rural areas. Strong partnerships are essential, and we value our collaboration with MAPS and other regional leaders in supporting families and strengthening our community.”

This initiative will help provide families with access to reliable child care, support local workforce stability, and contribute to the long-term vitality of Eagle Lake. The City looks forward to continued collaboration with MAPS and regional partners to ensure that Eagle Lake meets the child care needs of its residents.
