Building and Zoning Permits
Building and Zoning Permits
Building Permits are required for almost all construction projects including, but not limited to, new homes, garages, additions, decks, sheds over 200 square feet, windows, roofing, siding, etc. A building permit is also required for any building being moved onto a lot or any building being demolished.
A zoning permit is required for sheds 200 square feet or less, patios, driveways, walkways, and fences. It is always a good idea to contact City Hall if you are unsure as to whether or not you need a building permit.
If you are hiring a contractor to do the work, they may apply for the building permit on your behalf. All contractors will be required to provide proof of their annual Minnesota Contractor’s License.
Building and zoning permit applications can be downloaded here or obtained at City Hall during normal business hours (7:30 am – 4:30 pm). Please allow 7-10 business days for processing of most building permits. For new home/commercial construction, please allow 12-14 days to process building permit applications. Please review the New Construction Permit Packet. In addition, remember to call Gopher State at 800.252.1166 if you are going to be doing any digging.
